Photo and description

Not far from the big roads, on a small hillock surrounded on all sides by a forest rich in nuts, berries and mushrooms, there is a village called Lokno. Not far from the village, there are the purest, mirror-like Benevsky lakes, and next to them is the longest hill in the Palkinsky region, which is called Veretya Gora, reaching a height of 163 meters. But the pride of Lokno is the Church of Cosmas and Damian located here, which was built in 1909 and is still in operation.

Initially, the Church of Cosmas and Damian was built of wood in 1695. Only in 1909, the church fell into unprecedented dilapidation, which is why the parishioners, as well as the priest Ioann Shchekin, decided to build a stone church, equipped with the former bell tower, in accordance with the church. The consecration of the new church took place in the winter of January 27, 1909 by the Pskov archimandrite of the Transfiguration Monastery named Ambrose.

The newly built church was laid out of red brick and over the years has gone through many misfortunes, having hardly survived the difficult history of devastation and oblivion. Soon, the church of Cosmas and Damian was abandoned, as it required repair work, because the church walls were badly shabby, the plaster was crumbling, and the internal ceilings and the temple roof were completely rotten. On February 1, 1962, the temple was removed from registration and closed. According to the petition of Archimandrite Tikhon, as well as with the blessing of Eusebius Loknovsky, the church was returned to the believing parishioners again, and its restoration was carried out with the help of parishioners and benefactors of the Pskov-Caves Monastery. The original Divine Liturgy took place on August 23, 2004, and from that moment it was held every Sunday, as well as on the days of great church holidays.

The church bell tower was located on the south side of the altar and had six bells, on which inscriptions were difficult to read. All the bells were cast in the city of Izborsk during the reign of Ivan the Terrible.

There is only one altar in the Church of Cosmas and Damian. An ancient icon of the Sign of the Mother of God in Greek writing was once kept in the temple. There is a cemetery along the entire perimeter of the church.

In 1907 Ilyin Alexy Ilyich was appointed as the church psalmist, who after a while began to work in the dignity of a priest. Father Alexy was born in 1876 in the village of Zabolotye, at the moment, Palkinsky district. On February 16, 1938, Alexy was arrested, and on March 5, 1938, he was sentenced to be shot by the Troika of the NKVD in the Leningrad Region. On January 16, 1939, he was rehabilitated. In 1935, a warehouse was set up in the Church of Cosmas and Damian. During the Great Patriotic War, the temple was reopened with the support of the priests of the Pskov Orthodox Mission. Throughout 1944, Komarov served as the church psalmist. The church lasted until 1961.

In 2005 a new iconostasis was installed in the church. It is a working church today.

During the Great Patriotic War, the temple was reopened with the support of the priests of the Pskov Orthodox Mission. Throughout 1944, Komarov served as the church psalmist. The church lasted until 1961.
