Photo and description

On the Mozartplatz, in front of the beautiful two-storey town hall with a bay window on the central facade, which was built in 1914-1915, there is a fountain with a statue of Mozart. The Viennese sculptor, Professor Karl Wollek depicted the famous composer in full size. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart plays the violin, surrounded by small birds, listening to the sounds of his instrument. This entire sculptural composition is placed on a large, massive pedestal of light shade, reminiscent of a column. The idea of the author of the sculpture was as follows: the imaginary, ghostly sounds of the Maestro's violin should not be lost in the noise of the water of the fountain. Therefore, the water in the fountain barely gurgles. It falls into a wide and deep bowl from the open beaks of the birds, creating a lot of splashes rather than refreshing and giving coolness. The fountain bowl is surrounded by a circular flower bed planted with bright flowers. The fountain was installed on the main square of St. Gilgen in 1926 and immediately fell in love with the locals and guests of the resort.

In general, the village of St. Gilgen is sometimes called the village of Mozart - there are too many attractions here associated with the famous Austrian composer ... This is the house-museum of his mother, and a small monument-fountain, again dedicated to his parent, and a cafe named after his sister - "Nannerl", and a memorial dedicated to the entire Mozart family. Such an abundance of monuments in honor of Mozart is surprising, because Wolfgang Amadeus himself has never been here. Nevertheless, in the souvenir shops of the city, tourists find many products associated with his name: sweets, liquor, figurines, magnets, etc.
