Photo and description

The pomosye is a place located at the old Trinity Bridge, which crosses the Pskov River. In the old days, it was crowned with churches at the crossroads of the main streets of Zapskovye. Initially, this place was a wooden church, which burned down in 1458. The Pskov prince Vladimir Andreevich, as well as Zinovy Mikhailovich - the dignified mayor - decided to lay the currently existing slab church, the construction of which was completed in 1463. In the side-chapel of the Church of Cosmas and Damian, gunpowder was kept, intended for military needs, which caught fire and exploded in 1507 during a fire; it is worth mentioning that the chapel was completely destroyed. Another fire in the church happened in 1541.

In 1860, the church was rebuilt with the money of the church headman - the Pskov merchant Matvey Ivanovich Afanasyev. By order of the spiritual consistory in the city of Pskov on September 1, 1786, the churches of the Holy Prophet Elijah, as well as the Church of St. Michael the Archangel, were assigned to this church. By the beginning of the 19th century, the churches of the Position of the Belt of Our Lady and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary were registered.

Until 1869, according to the state, there were four psalmists and two priests in the temple of Cosmas and Damian. In 1855, instead of the fourth psalmist, the office of deacon was established.

The huge holy gates standing on thick pillars, judging by their construction, were of very ancient construction. The porch, as well as two side-chapels: one in the name of Mitrofaniy of Voronezh, and the second - in the name of Saint Sava of the Consecration - are completely new.

The plan of the church of the holy wonderworkers and unmercenaries Damian and Cosmas is an ordinary square. In the eastern part there is one rounded apse, on both sides of which there are protrusions, attached later. The facades are equipped with ordinary triple blade divisions, and the apse is decorated in the form of roller streaks. The church dome is especially bulky and massive, and its cornice is decorated with small depressions in the form of neat kokoshniks, triangles and squares. The head of the temple has a poppy shape and a cross at the end. The main temple has four pillars, which are covered with arches; followed by the corrugated vaults. On the west side of the temple there are small covered rooms connected by choirs, from which only the left tent has an exit.

The church bell tower has two components: a massive slab building, built in the form of a cubic shape, and on it there is an ordinary bell tower made in a modern form. It is clear that this building was built a very long time ago, which proves the appearance of the church on the old ancient icons. In the walls of the church building, holes were made for narrow windows, made in the form of loopholes. The entrance can only be found on the east side of the church, which is wonderfully decorated with a series of gradually expanding arches. In addition, the church has cellars.

At the church of Cosmas and Damian, there was one parish trusteeship, and at the end of the 19th century - by the beginning of the 20th century, there was a shelter for the poor and poor people. In September 1904, a parish school was established, and already in 1914 already 49 students were trained there. The maintenance of the school was carried out on funds that were raised from the shop of the Cyril and Methodius brotherhood for the lease of premises by it at the Church of Michael the Archangel. Numerous donations for the church and the orphanage were made by merchants from Pskov, the widow of Vasiliev D., Matryona Afonskaya, Varvara Gulyaeva, as well as the Pskov bourgeoisie Stephanida Ryndin, Elena Poboynina and many other parishioners.
Since 1914 Pavsky Vladimir Alexandrovich was a church priest, and a deacon - Vasily Ilyich Rudkov became a psalmist. The headman was Grigory Filippovich Chernov.

During the Great Patriotic War, the Church of Cosmas and Damian was seriously damaged and was almost completely burned down. The church belfry collapsed under the attack of an aerial bomb; the roof and all the components of the wooden part of the temple were destroyed; the iconostasis was completely destroyed and destroyed. The church is currently occupied by an enterprise.
