When in Montenegro, do not forget to visit the dilapidated fortress of Hai-Nehai, which is located on the mountain of the same name, at an altitude of approximately 180 m above sea level, near the cities of Sutomore and Bar.

Back in 1542, the first mentions of this fortress appeared. "Fear, do not be afraid" - this is how the name Hai-Nehai is translated. From the side it seems that the fortress stands on a steep cliff. The winged lion, the coat of arms of the Venetian Republic, is engraved in the stone above the main gate of the Hai-Nehai fortress.

You can only get inside from the western side, where there is an entrance, the rest of the fortress walls are impregnable. You can climb directly to the entrance only along a winding and narrow path that starts on the left side of the mountain. The fortress could accommodate up to 900 people.

Here, at the highest point of Mount Hai-Nehai, in the 13th century there was the Church of St. Demetrius, erected before the construction of the fortress itself. In ancient times, she had 2 altars: Orthodox and Catholic. Only the ruins of this church have survived to this day.

For several centuries, the fortress passed into the possession of either the Venetians or the Turks, who conquered it as a result of bloody battles, so on the territory you can see buildings of three different cultures: Turkish , Venetian and Montenegrin.
