Place du Trocadero-et-du-11-Novembre description and photos - France: Paris. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Place du Trocadero-et-du-11-Novembre. Photo and descriptionTrocadero is named after the hill on top of which it is located. Something Spanish is heard in the name, and so it is: on the map of Paris this toponym appeared in honor of the victory of the French expeditionary force at the Spanish Fort Trocadero near Cadiz in 1823. On the square there is a huge Chaillot palace, built in 1937 for the next World Exhibition. The palace houses the Museum of Man, the National Maritime Museum and the Museum of French Monumental Art, and the National Theater of Chaillot. In the center of the square there is an equestrian monument to Marshal Foch, a hero of the First World War. In the southwest, the Passy cemetery adjoins the Trocadero square. This cemetery is unusual: it is arranged according to the principle of hanging gardens and rises above the square. It is very small there are only two and a half thousand graves. But the names engraved on the gravestones are the pride and glory of France. Here lie Manet, Debussy, Fernandel, the descendants of Talleyrand. Members of the Romanov family are also buried here. Near Rue Georges Mandel, that wall of the cemetery overlooks the square, which is decorated with bas-reliefs depicting the exploits of French soldiers on the battlefields of the First World War. The complex of the square also includes the Trocadero gardens, which slope down to the Seine. There is a long pool with the largest 50-meter fountains in Paris. The water cascade is decorated with majestic sculptures - marble "Man" and "Woman", gilded "Bull and deer", "Horse and dog". Quiet streets lined with expensive mansions radiate from the Trocadero square. Many buildings here were built by one of the founders of the Art Nouveau style, Hector Guimard. This is one of the most prestigious areas of Paris. Restaurants are expensive here, and almost exclusively French is spoken on the streets. Nearby are museums - Claude Monet, Asian art, contemporary art, sports. A striking view of the square opens from the Eiffel Tower. The sophisticated Trocadero is visible against the backdrop of the ultra-modern district of La Defense, a few kilometers away.
