The Museum of Kholui Art was founded on a voluntary basis in 1959 and the main purpose of collecting then was Kholui miniature painting. But from the very moment of its foundation, the collection of the museum acquired a complex character: the inhabitants of the village brought here household items, icons, old printed and handwritten books, stitching products, paintings by Kholui masters. These exhibits became the basis of the museum's collection.

Now the museum has collected more than 700 of the best works of Kholui artists from the moment the craft was organized to the present day. Here you can see large collections of ancient Russian art, Kholuy stitching and embroidery, painting, graphics, folk applied art, which are exhibited at temporary exhibitions. Up to 10 exhibitions from own funds and funds of other museums are held per year.
