The title in English is Amphitheater. Photo and descriptionThe amphitheater, spread out on the slope of the Gektepe hill, was built in the 4th century BC. at Mavsol and accommodated about 13 thousand spectators. In 1973, after archaeological excavations were carried out on the territory of the amphitheater, it was turned into an open-air museum. More recently, Turkcell and " Ericsson " completed a large joint restoration project of this unique structure, begun in 2000 under the leadership of the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archeology. Previous restoration work in 1976-1985 was stopped due to the cessation of funding for the project. The most visible sign of the new stage of restoration for visitors is the entrance to the tunnel, which was discovered during previous works, but has not been fully discovered and studied until now. This tunnel is believed to lead to an ancient tomb.
