Photo and description

At the beginning of the last century, another fascinating creation was created by the great master Antoni Gaudi - Park Guell. The customer for the project was Eusebio Guell, who wanted to create an area combining residential and garden areas, the so-called "garden city". The area of Park Guell is 17.18 hectares, and its construction was carried out in several stages over 14 years - from 1901 to 1914. The site was located on a hillside, and therefore the park had to be equipped on several levels.

The territory of the future park was divided into many land plots for the construction of mansions. But due to the remoteness from the city center, the plots were not in demand, and Guell managed to sell only 2 of them. Thus, what Guell originally intended was the creation of a populated mini-city, failed to complete. According to the plan for the development of the park, it was supposed to build a market, a chapel, a theater, a building for a gatekeeper. Nevertheless, some part of the plan was implemented, and a fabulous landscape park of amazing beauty was created.

The most significant are two buildings at the entrance to the park - the gatekeeper's house and the administration building. These structures look more like gingerbread fairy-tale houses, as if covered with glaze. The main staircase leads to the Hall of the Hundred Columns, which has amazing acoustics. On the lower level of the staircase there is a fairy-tale character - a Dragon made of mosaics. On the upper level of the park, there is the famous bench in the shape of a long fairytale snake, created by Gaudi in collaboration with Jusep Jujol and completely lined with fragments of mosaics that create incredible patterns. Walking alleys created of local stone amaze with their uniqueness.

Each structure built in the park is a whole architectural work, both stylistically and decoratively completed. Every building, every element here is truly unique. The ingenious architect managed to create a real architectural and landscape masterpiece, recognized as a work of world architectural art, which has no equal, and is unlikely to be.

Gaudi's house-museum is located in the park, where he lived from 1906 to 1926.
