The Museum of Photojournalism and Photo Equipment was opened in Donetsk in June 2008. In Ukraine, it is the only museum of this profile. In the museum you can see photographs and personal belongings of photographic technicians and press photographers of Donetsk.

The exposition of this museum was created according to the historical and chronological principle. The collection of this original museum includes 500 rare and fairly modern pieces of photographic equipment with the necessary accessories. The most important place among all these museum exhibits is occupied by the first famous Soviet camera "Photocor-1", you can also see well-known brands of cameras "Zenith", "Kiev", "FED", "Salut", "Smena", "Practice" and many others. And despite his great age and vast work experience, these old museum exhibits are still in excellent working order.

This museum was created by the Boris Vitkov Regional Heritage Foundation. For four years, A. A Zagibalov, N. A Vitkova, A. Vitkov have worked on the creation of this museum. The collection was also replenished with exhibits from Donetsk residents and representatives of Donbass communities from Moscow or Kiev, as well as other cities.

This exposition was created according to one of the historical and technological principles, which uses a thematic method. Also, a collection of 300 different rare copies of photographic accessories and photographic equipment was collected. This museum also has an archive of photographic materials. The director of the museum is Alexander Vitkov. And the area of the museum itself is about 20 square meters.

In May 2012, the second stage of the museum was opened. The museum has been excellently restored, and even has its own operating darkroom.
