Photo and description

The Maxim Gorky Central Children's Park of Culture and Leisure in Minsk is one of the oldest and most beautiful parks in the capital of Belarus. The year of its foundation is considered to be 1805.

The city garden in Minsk was founded by the governor Zakhary Yakovlevich Korneev. The garden was named the governor's. It was originally planned for a decent audience. It was a large park with an area of 18 hectares, in which flower beds were laid, alleys and canals were dug. The fact that it was a garden for an educated public is evidenced by a plate found on one of the trees in Latin, which read: "Post laborem requies" - rest after work.

At the end of the 19th century, when it became fashionable to practice sports not only for men, but also for progressive women, appeared in the park, in a European manner, stadium, lawn tennis court, croquet court, cycle track. To support a healthy lifestyle in the townspeople, it was forbidden to sell alcoholic beverages in the park. A lot of useful things were sold: kefir, which is becoming fashionable, and mineral waters, and fresh juices, and milk. Hot drinks served tea and coffee on summer verandas.

After the revolution, all estates gained access to the luxurious park for a clean public, which, unfortunately, immediately affected the state of green spaces. The cheerful colored flower beds were gone, many benches were broken. New masters of the city strolled busily in the park, rallies and national holidays were organized. In 1936, the park was named after Maxim Gorky.

During the Great Patriotic War and battles for Minsk, the park was seriously damaged. The city blocks outside the park burned down and were destroyed during the bombing. This made it possible to expand the territory of the park. The restoration of the Gorky Park was entrusted to the architect I. Rudenko. Thanks to his energetic leadership, the park, the stadium were restored and expanded, attractions and a summer cinema with a simple and uncomplicated name "Summer" were built.

In the 1970s, there was a big fire that burned down a cycle track and a summer cinema. An indoor skating rink was built in their place - the pride of Minsk, where hockey matches and figure skating competitions were held.

Today, the Minsk Gorky Park of Culture and Leisure is dedicated to the youngest visitors. Attractions for all ages have been developed and installed especially for children. Mothers with strollers breathe easily in the shady alleys, where comfortable benches are installed to relax. Several playgrounds have been built for kids. Cute little trains run throughout the park, taking kids and their parents to any corner of the 28-hectare park.
