The name in English is Sahat kula. Photo and descriptionSahat Kula is a tower in the historical part of Herceg Novi, which has also become a full-fledged symbol of the city. Other names for the tower: Sat Kula, Clock Tower or Torah. Erected in 1494, then it played the role of a bell tower for the Vyborg Cathedral. Since 1753 the tower has been crowned with a massive clock with a bell. This was followed by another completion - the two-tier structure had another tier, which became the third. Architecturally, this extension is made in the classicist style. Another function, later assigned to the tower, is a fire tower with an observation deck at the top. During the Turkish rule, the Clock Tower was the main entrance to the city. Today, a tower passage connects two key city squares. The tower is decorated with a unique bas-relief made of charred wood "Black Madonna". This work was done by Afran Khozich, a Sarajevo sculptor. His appearance on the tower is dedicated to the memory of the founder of the city, the Serbian and Montenegrin king - Tvrtko I Kotromanice. The alarm bell, which has been preserved in the tower to this day, is a gift to the townspeople of Herceg Novi from the Russian Empress Catherine II.
