Photo and description

The Skakavishki waterfall is located in the northern part of the Kyustendil region, near the villages of Polska-Skakavitsa and Razdavitsa. One of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in Bulgaria is located just 18 km east of the town of Kyustendil, on the right bank of the Struma River, at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level.

The waterfall forms a small tributary of the Struma River - the Shiroki River dol, feeding on karst springs in the west. Millions of years ago, the earth's crust, the earth's crust in these places cracked, as a result of which a high threshold was formed, which gradually turned into a jagged rock terrace. A stormy stream of water flows down it from a height of 53 meters. The area around Skakavishka is covered with dense vegetation, which gives the place the appearance of a corner of nature untouched by man.

In terms of size, the waterfall ranks third in Bulgaria. In 1968 it was declared a natural monument.

You can get to Skakavishka in two ways: by train or by car. However, in any case, part of the path will have to be covered on foot (a walk without transport will take about an hour in both cases).

On the terrace above the waterfall, there are the surroundings of the village of Polska-Skakavitsa. From here, a beautiful view of the falling stream of water opens up. In the immediate vicinity of the attraction there is the Orthodox Church of St. Dmitry, built in 1892 on the foundations of a medieval temple.

However, in any case, part of the path will have to be covered on foot (a walk without transport will take about an hour in both cases).
