Photo and descriptionThe Palace of Culture and Science is the tallest building in Poland, located in Warsaw. The building was built in the style of Stalinist architecture by Soviet builders as a gift to the Polish people. Construction was carried out from 1952 to 1955, 3,500 workers were involved in the construction, a cinema, a canteen and a sports club with a swimming pool were opened for them. The Palace of Culture was built according to the project of the Soviet architect Lev Rudnev, who combined several architectural styles in the building at once, from Art Deco to Socialist Realism. As was often the case in Soviet times, the project was the most, the most, breaking several records at once: 42 floors, height 230.68 meters with a spire, almost 3300 rooms, 40 million bricks. There was an observation deck on the 30th floor of the palace, however, after several suicides, it was surrounded by bars. The inhabitants of Warsaw did not like this building very much and gave it the nickname `` Uncle Stalin. '' In the 90s, when tensions arose in relations between the two countries, they even wanted to demolish the Palace of Culture in Warsaw, however, this idea remained unrealized. Currently, the building belongs to the city administration and plays an important role in city life. The tallest building in Warsaw houses offices of various companies, shopping areas, museums and a cinema, as well as a conference hall.
