Photo and description

The Life-Giving Trinity Cathedral is one of the main temples of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the only cathedral in the city. It is located on a hill near the central highway of the city.

The decision to build the temple was made in August 1999 at the diocesan meeting of the clergy of the Kamchatka diocese. The project of the cathedral was developed by the architect Oleg Lukomsky, who, in addition to the construction of the church itself with two or three aisles, also envisaged the reconstruction of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the construction of a diocesan administration, a chapel, and other service premises that make up a single complex - the Kremlin of Petropavlovsk.

In the first half of 2000, a board of trustees for the construction of the temple was created. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II was elected the honorary head of the council. In September 2001, at the construction site of the Cathedral of the Life-Giving Trinity, Bishop Ignatius of Peter and Paul celebrated the first Divine Liturgy. At the same time, construction work began. In June 2002, on the day of the celebration of the Holy Trinity, the solemn laying of the first brick in the foundation of the cathedral, a steel capsule with the relics of the holy Vilna martyrs John, Anthony, Eustathius and the Letter of Mortgage took place.

The majestic two-story cathedral of the Life-Giving Trinity was made in the old Russian architectural style. The temple is 42 meters high and can withstand a magnitude 10 earthquake. The church can accommodate up to 3 thousand people. The domes were installed in May 2007.

For the first 6 years, the construction of the cathedral was carried out with funds donated by parishioners. Later on, the project was financed by Gazprom. The main work on the construction of the temple was completed by September 2010, after which work began on the painting of the cathedral and the improvement of the adjacent territory. The consecration of the cathedral took place in September 2010
