Perast is located several kilometers northwest of Kotor, it is washed by the Bay of Kotor, which is part of the Adriatic Sea. The architectural appearance of Perast has been preserved without significant changes since the 17th-18th centuries, when this region of Montenegro flourished economically. The city experienced a decline associated with the fall of the Venetian Republic, during which and later the city authorities had to spend considerable sums on the construction of coastal roads, as well as the reconstruction of various towers and palaces.

Today Perast is the most beautiful example of architecture, executed mainly in the "baroque" style (if you compare it with all other cities of Montenegro and in general with settlements along the Adriatic coast). The city has built at least 300 buildings, among them - the palaces built on the coast or on the slopes of the hill of St. Elijah. In those days, the city's income was constantly replenished due to military campaigns against pirates.

The most beautiful in Perast is the Bujovici Palace. It was built of stone and fragments of the destroyed walls of the city of Herceg Novi when it was liberated from the Turks in 1687. The palace was founded in 1694; stone boards right on the facade of the palace remind of this. An interesting fact is that the construction of the palace was carried out in honor of the national hero Vicko Bujovic during the period of the Venetian Republic. The palace was designed by the Venetian architect Giovanni Batista Fontana. The entrance to the palace is crowned with the Bujovic family coat of arms.

Today, the palace houses a museum with an extensive collection of various nautical maps, ship models, weapons, and costumes.
