Photo and description

In the Cossack village of Vorstadt, near the city of Orenburg, in the spring of 1883 a parish church was founded. The idea of laying a brick structure was a fire preceding these events, which incinerated the entire village, including the fort (the fortress that gave the name to the village of Vorstadt). In the same year, Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, the future Russian emperor, made an expensive gift to the church under construction - a large altar Gospel under a metal frame with medallions at four corners depicting the apostles. Subsequently, the Gospel was transferred to a specially built chapel at the temple. Consecrated by the Bishop of Orenburg in May 1886, the church had one throne - St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, in 1910 the temple is already listed as a three-throne.

Over time, the village of Vorstadt became the outskirts of the city of Orenburg, and in the middle of the twentieth century - its central part, surrounding the beautiful church with new buildings. At the time of the persecution of the church and the destruction of churches, out of forty parishes and churches, only the plundered St. Nicholas Church remained, in which signs were seen in the thirties (according to stories, he was guarding). By 1944, passions for ideology in Orenburg subsided and a miracle happened - the temple was allowed to open. From 1955 to 1958

St. Nicholas Church was painted by the talented artist V. Rublyov. Since the beginning of the nineties, the cathedral has been restored, built on, additional buildings have been built and the territory has been improved. Today the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with the Tabyn Icon of the Mother of God is the most visited temple in the city.
