Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Franziskanerkloster. Photo and descriptionFranciscans appeared in St. Polten in the middle of the 15th century. Initially, they owned a small chapel of St. Maximilian, which was located on the road to Vienna. Subsequently, they built their own monastery, which at the end of the 18th century they had to leave and move to the former abbey of the Carmelites. This cloister is located on the main Town Hall Square. It was built in the years 1757-1779. The most interesting part is the Franciscan Church, consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. Both the church and the Franciscan monastery are recognized as architectural monuments. The monastery church of the Holy Trinity was designed in a baroque manner in 1757 by the architect Matthias Munngenast. The construction of the Carmelite church continued until 1768. The interior decoration was carried out in 1779. Since 1785, the temple has been owned by the Franciscans. Above the arched portal of the church, you can see a figurine of the Infant Jesus, created in Prague in the 17th century. This is a reminder of the times when the temple was under the patronage of the Prague Society of the Infant Jesus. They say that sculpture can fulfill cherished desires. To do this, you need to say a prayer before entering the church. The Franciscan church has no bell tower. The nave of the Church of the Holy Trinity is decorated in the rococo style, that is, magnificent and rich. The walls are decorated with pilasters with gilded capitals. The high main altar and side altars were probably created by Andreas Gruber in 1770-1772. On the altar, framed by columns, there are statues depicting saints and the Virgin Mary. The paintings of the artist Martin Johann Schmidt are considered the real treasure of the temple.
