The fortress of San Felipe de Barajas in Cartagena is one of the seven wonders of Colombia and is under the protection of UNESCO. A huge stone fort was built on the hill of Saint Lazarus in the first half of the 16th century, later it was expanded and strengthened several times. The fortress withstood many sieges and hostilities until the beginning of the 19th century. It is now a tourist attraction and venue for various cultural events.
