The ensemble of the Ascension Churches is located in the center of the former Zagrad settlement. The warm church of St. John Chrysostom with a side-altar was built on the site of the former Ascension nunnery by order of I.N. Talanov in 1760. In 1779, a cold church of the Ascension was built to the north of it. At the same time, a free-standing pillar-shaped bell tower was erected in baroque forms. Before the destruction of the bell tower, the complex, in whose appearance the motives of Old Russian architecture prevail, played a major role in organizing the development of the upland part of Kineshma, and today it stands out among the low buildings of the former settlement with its large volumes.

In the early 1930s. The Ascension Summer Church was adapted for a local history museum, which is still located here. The winter church was originally adapted for storage, later - a food warehouse for a military hospital, and since the early 1950s. the premises were converted into the training workshops of the technical school. During all these reconstructions, the interiors in both churches were severely damaged, the utensils were seized, and the wall paintings were partly knocked down, partly painted over.

In 1988 - 1989. restoration work was carried out, during which the five domes were restored on the Ascension Summer Church, which actually returned the monument to its original architectural appearance.
