Photo and description

The Renaissance Museum in Varna was founded by a group of patriotic residents in 1959, who collected the first museum fund on their own. The opening of the museum took place in an old building, the construction of which was completed in the 1860s. In those days, a school was located here. The building is an example of classical architecture for that time.

From that era, one classroom has survived, in which the surface of school desks was covered with sand - students used it instead of paper. This exposition now occupies the first floor of the museum. The second floor contains all kinds of ancient exhibits: weapons, military insignia and medals of distinction, books, as well as photographs of Varna dated from the end of the 19th century.

All kinds of documents and materials covering the era of the Bulgarian Renaissance have found their place among the museum expositions. Among the best exhibits in the collection are: the second largest collection of stamps and icons from the 14th-19th centuries, a collection of weapons from the 18th to the 19th centuries, old-printed and handwritten books, as well as engravings depicting religious subjects. In addition, in one of the museum halls there is an art exhibition "Stara Varna".

The purpose of the Renaissance Museum is to illuminate the social and cultural life of the townspeople during the period when the country was actively developing the national identity.
