On the territory of Gaspra there was the Charax palace, owned by Prince Georgy Mikhailovich Romanov at the beginning of the 20th century. His wife was Princess Maria Georgievna. They had two beautiful daughters: Ksenia and Nina. In 1905, grief happened: the eldest daughter fell ill. The doctors named the diagnosis - diphtheria. She was treated by the best of the best, had an operation, and the day when the girl recovered - & nbsp; August 6 (Orthodox holiday of the Transfiguration of the Lord) - began to be celebrated as a family holiday.

The prince was happy and decided to build a church in his domain in honor of his daughter's recovery and to name it in honor of his daughter's patroness - St. Nina. On a significant day, January 14, 1906, with the prince and his wife, as well as several of the closest relatives and guests, the laying of the temple took place. This event has been repeatedly mentioned in various sources. A dome of the temple was erected on a drum of eight faces, and a cross made of stone was seen from above. According to the idea of the artist A. Slavtsov, the face of the Savior Not Made by Hands was made from mosaics at the central entrance. It was created in the likeness of a very revered icon in the Romanov family. The author of the projects of the church and the entire palace is the architect N.P. Krasnova. - awarded the prize and the title of academician in architecture.

Under Soviet rule, the church was ordered to be liquidated. Services were not carried out there, and the building served as an office building, a warehouse. Unfortunately, that mosaic has not survived. After a while, services resumed.
