Urho Kekkonen National Park is one of the largest in the country. Located in northern Finland, Lapland, and covering an area of 2,550 km2, the size of Luxembourg, the park was created in 1983, named after the former President and Prime Minister of Finland, Urho Kekkonen.

The local population is traditionally engaged in reindeer husbandry, hunting and fishing. Tourism has recently played an important role in the region. The main tourist center is located in the village of Saariselka, which is located in a mountainous area. Most hiking trails start here.

The National Park is the second largest taiga territory in Finland. In its southern part, spruce prevails, and in the north, pine. This region is visited annually by about 180,000 tourists.
