Photo and description

The Church of St. John the Theologian, located in the city of Barnaul along Shumakov Street, is one of the main and beautiful city attractions.

The creation of this Orthodox community in Barnaul took place in 1996. The services were held in a temporary building. However, in 2003 the local authorities decided to build a stone church. Funds for the construction of the church were donated by the parishioners themselves, residents of the city and local entrepreneurs. Priest Georgy Kreidun, I. Timofeeva and K. Brave were involved in the development of the project. The great consecration of the main temple altar in honor of the Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian took place in October 2009

The two-storey stone building of the church is made in the style of Russian Orthodox architecture. The church is decorated with five golden domes and many decorative elements. The church has three thrones. The first throne was consecrated in the name of John the Theologian, the second - in honor of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir and Macarius, and the third - in the name of the Metropolitan of Altai. The snow-white facade of the church looks very harmonious with the bright green roof. A high bell tower can be seen near the temple.

The interior decoration of the Church of St. John the Evangelist deserves special attention. It amazes with its magnificence and beauty. The temple has a huge number of shrines, especially the main icon of St. John the Theologian, painted in Greece, on Mount Athos.

On the territory of the church, right at the place where the old temporary building was located, quite recently, construction work began on the construction of another temple in the name of the Bethlehem infant martyrs from Herod who were beaten.

Today, the Church of St. John the Evangelist is open every day for believers and tourists. The church is constantly crowded, but despite this, it is always very quiet and peaceful here.
