The main mosque of the Sultanate of Oman, built with the personal funds of Sultan Qaboos, is located in its capital Muscat. Work on the construction of the mosque began in 1995 and was completed 6 years later. The mosque was inaugurated by Sultan Qaboos in May 2001. It is interesting that the sultan personally supervised all stages of construction, but after the opening of the mosque he never visited it. It was his gift to his people, so only the people should use it.

The Sultan Qaboos Mosque is very richly decorated. First of all, a huge chandelier located under the dome attracts attention here. It is adorned with Swarovski crystals and decorated with miniature copies of the minarets of this mosque. The rest of the lamps were also made at the Swarovski factory in Austria.

Another attraction of the main Omani temple is a huge carpet weighing 21 tons. According to the Sultan's idea, a handmade Persian carpet, which was worked on by 600 craftswomen, was supposed to cover the entire prayer space. Its length is 70 meters, and its width is 60 meters. First, weavers created smaller carpets, and then joined them together into a large canvas.

A minaret rises 90 meters above the mosque. The area around the mosque is lined with light marble, in which, as in the smooth surface of water, the temple is reflected. Also, the mosque complex includes shady gardens in which various exotic plants are planted, and a library, which has about 20 thousand volumes. The library is equipped with workplaces, there is free Wi-Fi.

The mosque is also open for tourists with the only condition: not to disturb the believers.
