Photo and Description
The Arch of Galerius was erected in 303 by order of Emperor Galerius in honor of the victory over the Persians in 297. The arch is decorated with bas-reliefs depicting battle scenes.
Nearby was the Palace of Galerius, but its walls did not survive everywhere, even up to the level of the first floor. It is best preserved in its southeastern part on Navarina Square. Its central element is the courtyard, which is surrounded by galleries, corridors and halls. In some places, mosaic floors have been preserved. The Octagon (octagon) was found in the southwestern part of the palace. Its remains indicate that it was a magnificent structure. The few remnants of the city hippodrome, which was located on its eastern side, have survived to this day.
