Photo and description

The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is located in the Pskov district, namely in the Bolotovo derain, which was previously called the Znakhlitsy churchyard. The first mention of the churchyard dates back to 1585-1587, when it was described in the Pskov scribes, as well as quitrent books. The church was built from a slab in the late 13th - early 14th centuries, but this is only speculative, because the sources about the exact date and the customer have not survived to this day. The land belonging to the Church of the Intercession was 57 dessiatines. From August 4, 1896 to 1898, a brick side-altar was built with the money of church parishioners and benefactors, and the main volume of the church was significantly expanded; all work was carried out under the guidance of civil engineer Nikolai Ilyich Bogdanov. In the fall of September 20, 1898, the chapel was consecrated in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

The church bell tower originally existed in the form of a belfry, but in 1912, in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov family, it was again built of bricks. The stone bell tower was equipped with four bells, which, unfortunately, had no inscriptions or weight designations. The first bell weighed about 13 pounds, the second about 10; the two existing bells weighed about a pood each. The church parables consisted of a sexton, priest, prosphora and psalm-reader.

A beautiful gate opens right in front of the temple. The church has two thrones, the main of which is consecrated in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the side altar is consecrated in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord. A cemetery stretches along the entire perimeter of the territory, which preserved the family burial place of the famous and respected nobles Nazimov. The owner of the Nazimovo village, G.P. Nazimov.

Since the summer of 1820, every year a religious procession is held in the church in memory of the great sign of the Mother of God, as well as the deliverance of the entire Pskov region from the pestilence, which takes place in a churchyard called Chirski. It is known that in 1420 the Mother of God appeared in a sign in the Chirskaya church, when tears flowed on the icon. At the suggestion of Porkhovsky and Pskov Bishop Pavel, in honor of the famous wedding of Princess Maria Alexandrovna, who was the daughter of the Russian Emperor Alexander II, with the Duke of Edinburgh, at the end of January 1874 a collection of five rubles was established from the temple in the form of silver to help the Ilyinsky community of the Pskov sisters mercy. In the temple there was a locally venerated icon depicting the face of Jesus Christ, which blesses with two fingers; the icon dates back to the 15th century.

The parish had two chapels built of wood; one of the chapels was located in the village of Kokorino and was consecrated in honor of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, and the second - in the village of Bolshie Peschivitsy, consecrated in the name of the great martyr St. Dmitry Thessaloniki and located in the cemetery.

In mid-1884, it was established parish guardianship to meet the needs of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. In 1888 the landowner Vladimir Vladimirovich Nazimov became the chairman. With the support of the trusteeship, the construction and consecration of the chapel in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord was completed in 1898. There was no hospital at the church, almshouses or other types of charitable institutions.
On August 6 and October 1, two quite numerous fairs were held in the Znakhlitsy churchyard. Pskov merchants came here and arranged all sorts of entertainment, including riding on merry-go-rounds.

In 1805, there were 1,755 parishioners at the temple, and by 1900 there were 3,056. The parish population was most often engaged in arable farming and flax growing. The priest of the church was Peter Ioannovich, who was born in 1879 in a village not far from the Novgorod province. In 1909 he was ordained a deacon, and in 1911 he was ordained a priest in the church of the Roznitsa churchyard. In the Church of the Intercession, he served until March 5, 1917. In 1937 he was arrested and soon shot on the verdict of December 14, 1937. Since May 1917, priest Vasily Nazaretsky served at the church. In 1942, the Pskov icon-painting workshop re-painted the temple iconostasis. Today the Church of the Intercession is active.
