Having visited the many attractions of Fethiye and its surroundings, every traveler should definitely explore the twelve islands. This can be done by taking a boat excursion, or by renting a motor boat, and explore the cozy coves on your own. The trip will allow you to enjoy the magnificent nature and get a lot of pleasure from swimming in the picturesque bays. All twelve islands are of different sizes, have wonderful sandy and pebble deserted beaches and are covered with forests. Gliding along the coast, the pleasure boat will stop near the remains of stone shipyards, where pirate ships used to be repaired and will provide an opportunity to plunge into the cool waters of numerous bays.

Usually, the first or last stop occurs on Knights' Island. located opposite Fethiye. In ancient times, this island was used by the Rhodes knights for defense, that's why it got this name. And indeed, being there, you understand that this is the ideal place for a sentry post. Now there is a small settlement on the island, there is a cafe, a hotel and several summer cottages. Dolmush boats are constantly running between the island and the mainland.

Kyzylada (Red Island) island will definitely be next on the course. The island got its name due to an interesting optical effect - coastal pebbles and sand in the rays of the setting sun acquire a reddish tint. The only structure on the island is a rather old lighthouse. The eastern part of the island is closed from the winds and is a great place for swimming.

Deliktash is located to the northwest of the Red Island, which consists of several closely spaced small islands. Diving enthusiasts simply adore these places. This place is much more beautiful under water than above it.

The next cluster of islands is called Yassija. There are only four islets and they are located so close to each other that each of them can be easily reached by swimming from the neighboring one. The distance between the nearest islands is only 12 meters. Their main attractions: a sandy promontory extending into the sea, and a cozy natural pool of tiny size are located on the largest of the islands. If you wish, you can walk along the shore, but it is better to bring sports shoes for this.

Zeytin Island is located to the north of the Yassija Islands and is a private property. A small plant for the production of olive oil was built here in Ottoman times, which is still functioning today.

Tersane Island is the largest island in the bay. During the Ottoman Empire, Greeks lived here, but after their deportation, only a few old houses and a church remained on the island. In addition, you can see the ruins of the fortress. Previously, the shallow bays of the island were used for the construction of ships, which is why its second name - the island of Shipyards. In the bays Yaz (summer) and Kysh (winter), ships and yachts often stop for pleasure cruises. There is a bay so shallow that it might seem like a lake on an island. Tashyaka Bay is located in the north-west of the island. Here artist Bedri Rahmi painted a fish on one of the rocks.

Domuz Island is also called Prince Island. Once upon a time, a large number of wild boars were found here. The harbor of this island is protected from the winds and ships come here with pleasure to drop anchor. To the north of Domuz Island is the Gobun Bay. It has a very narrow entrance and is a long corridor surrounded by olive and pine trees. If you disembark at the most extreme point of the bay, you can see ancient ruins and rock tombs. True, boats making daily walks rarely drop in here.

Not a single pleasure boat will pass by the Hamam Bay. They come here for swimming and lunch, and sometimes even stop for the night. Fragments of the walls of a Byzantine monastery are located very close to the pier. On the island you can take a pleasant walk in the forest or along the coast. An excellent excursion will be climbing Mount Yavansu, where the ruins of the ancient city of Lidai are located. In Cleopatra's hamam, you can walk up to your waist in water over muddy stones.

In the Cleopatra Baths Bay, surrounded by a pine forest, there is a very beautiful dark blue color of the water, sometimes turning into light blue. The bay is quite large, and it is named so thanks to the Romanesque baths donated to Queen Cleopatra by her close friends. It was they who discovered the hot underwater spring in this part of the bay. The water here is very good for the skin and contains many beneficial trace elements such as calcium and magnesium. Perhaps these amazing shores were included in the offering that the ally and lover Antony made to Cleopatra, donating the rich regions of Crete and Cilicia.

Opposite the city of Gosek is a group of islands, which are very close to each other. In the middle of the long sandy part of the largest island in this group, there is a salt lake. From the largest island to the smallest one can be reached by an elevation, the depth here is only one and a half meters.

A trip along the twelve islands of the bay will certainly be extremely romantic and informative. Islands and tiny islets, small bays and green shores, healing air and Turkish music accompanying you on this trip creates a feeling of a fairy tale and will remain in your memory for a long time.
