Photo and description

On the Main Square of Bratislava, which in the old days was called the Market Square, there are many interesting buildings. The greatest attention is drawn to the Old Town Hall, which was built in parts over several centuries, starting from the 13th century (it was then that the high town hall tower was built). Therefore, in the design of the town hall complex, you can see decorative details characteristic of different architectural styles.

The City Museum of Bratislava is located in the building of the Old Town Hall. You can get to the exhibition halls by going through the cozy courtyard of the Town Hall. The beginning of the activity of this cultural institution is considered to be in 1868, therefore, connoisseurs of local history consider the City Museum to be the oldest in the whole country. Its main collection is kept under the vaults of the Old Town Hall. It is dedicated to the history of the city, the development of the local judicial system, various local traditions, crafts - in general, everything that every city lives on every day. Much attention in the museum is paid to archaeological finds, because it is known that the territory of the modern city has not been empty since the Neolithic. Here they found Celtic and Roman coins, dishes of the ancient Slavs and much more. All these treasures are now on display at the City Museum. The collection of ancient frescoes, miniatures, knightly armor evokes constant delight.

The Bratislava City Museum has 11 branches, 9 of which are located within the historic center. Two - Devin Castle and Antika Gerulat Museum in Rusovets - are located in other settlements, although not far from Bratislava.
