Istana is a palace complex surrounded by parkland. Earlier in its place was located an extensive plantation for growing nutmeg. In translation from Malay "Istan" means "palace". Its construction was completed in 1869 by British colonists. At first, the mansion belonged to the British government. Since 1959, when Singapore gained autonomy, it became the official residence of the country's president. It also houses the office of the Prime Minister of Singapore.

The exterior of the building was designed by British military engineers. Here you can see a mixture of different architectural styles, from classicism to the Renaissance, which are in perfect harmony with each other. The facade of the palace is adorned with stately columns and narrow semicircular arches.

Nearby there are villas for official guests of Istana, reminiscent of Italian palazzo. The residence is located on one of the main streets of the city, which amazes with a large variety of green spaces. There are also several golf courses in the park. One of the landmarks of Istana are Japanese military weapons of the Second World War, installed near the palace. On the territory of the park area there are numerous alleys, streams and a large pond. In the depths of the garden there is a monument to Queen Victoria.
