Photo and description

Maimun Palace is the royal palace of the Sultanate of Delhi and one of the most striking architectural monuments in the city of Medan, the capital of North Sumatra province.

The Sultanate of Delhi is a Muslim sultanate located in the east of Sumatra and was founded in 1630. Initially it was a kingdom, and in 1814 the state received the status of a sultanate. The palace was built in 1887-1891 by Sultan Makmun Al Rashid Perkasa Alamshikh. Also, at the direction of Sultan Makmun Al Rashid, another city attraction was built - the Great Mosque of Medan.

Maymun Palace occupies a huge territory, its area is 2772 sq.m. The palace has 30 rooms and is surrounded by gardens. The construction of the palace was carried out by specialists invited from Holland. The palace is considered a popular tourist attraction among tourists not only because of its historical past, but also because of its unique interior decoration. The incredible and fabulous beauty of the palace interior combines elements of different cultures and styles: here you can see elements of Malay architecture, Islamic, Spanish, Indian and Italian architecture. Visitors will be amazed by the large crystal chandelier and antique furniture in the Throne Room, the total area of which is 412 sq.m. There are also ancient portraits of the Sultan's family hanging in the hall.

Unfortunately, only two rooms of the building are open to tourists, and all visitors are asked to take off their shoes before entering this fabulous palace. Today, Maimun Palace is the official residence of the incumbent sultan's brother.
