Photo and description

The Toy Museum is located in the center of Zurich on one of the quiet streets and is a private museum. In the 19th century, next to the site where the museum is located, there was a toy store "Karl Weber". Today, this site is home to "Kids town", which can serve as a good reference point.

The museum is not as large as a similar museum in Basel. However, its small size and cozy atmosphere inside are one of the trump cards of this attraction that attracts the visitor.

In order to get around the entire museum, you only need an hour or two. It presents a collection of a wide variety of toys from Europe: from oversized trains to tiny doll chairs and cars of various models - copies of cars produced from the late 18th century to the middle of the 20th century. Here you can also find old board games, wooden toys, children's books. Separate shelves are reserved for soft toys, in particular Teddy bears, for which a whole room has been allocated.

All local exhibits reflect the art of several directions at once. For example, trains and steam locomotives are "witnesses" to the technological revolution; dolls and their costumes illustrate the fashion of those times; doll houses copy the look of the household and life of those years. Most of the toys in the museum are made in Germany. And this is not surprising - after all, Germany has been a leading manufacturer of toys worldwide for many years. Looking at the wartime exhibits, it's hard to believe that they were released in those years.
