National Park Metropolitano (Parque Nacional Metropolitano) description and photos - Panama: Panama. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The title in English is Parque Nacional Metropolitano. Photo and descriptionMetropolitano Natural Park is located in the suburbs of Panama City. This is a real rainforest with its diversity of flora and fauna. There are hiking trails to the most picturesque corners of the park. A few centuries ago there was no forest here at all. Separate groves of trees were interspersed with plantations adjoining detached estates. Through the territory of the current Metropolitano Ecopark, there was a road along which gold was delivered from Panama to Venta de Cruces. In 1903, the local lands were transferred to the Americans who were building the Panama Canal. The creation of a park near the Panamanian capital was first discussed in 1974. The opening date of the park is considered 1985. The park, with an area of 232 hectares, stretches along the Panama Canal. Many species of birds live in the forest, reptiles and mammals. Many local inhabitants (monkeys, coati, squirrels, iguanas, etc.) can be seen during a simple walk in the park. In order not to scare them away, you should be quiet. The entrance to the park is considered free, but tourists are charged a small donation to develop local infrastructure. There is a library, a souvenir shop and a museum here. At the entrance, everyone is given a map of the Metropolitano Park. All local attractions are marked on it, among which the sector planted with orchids and a garden where low trees grow. There are also several viewing platforms located at different levels in the park. Accordingly, a new panorama opens from each of them.
