Photo and description

The Royal Route connects the Royal Castle with the summer residence in Lazienki. Azienki means bathing. Their story begins with the wooden fortress of the Mazovian princes. 300 years later, in the 16th century, Anna Jagiellonka, the wife of Stefan Bathory, lived here; with her, the first wooden bathhouse appeared here. Sigismund III Vasa built the magnificent Ujazdowski Palace here in 1623. Then Marshal Stanislav Lubomirsky ruled here: he built two small pavilions, the Hermitage and Lazne, not far from the palace, in a forest thicket. King Stanislav August Poniatowski rebuilt the palace, and turned the forest thickets into a park, giving Лазazienki a modern look.
