The first city exchange was founded by local merchants in 1558. The current building was built in 1879 according to the design of Heinrich Burnitz and Oskar Sommer in the neo-Renaissance style. Since 1957, the building has been used for its intended purpose and is open to visitors.

The Hauptwache building was built in 1730 as a guardhouse. The building was later used as a prison. Since 1904, the Hauptwache has been a chic cafe and a popular meeting place for city residents and guests.
