Photo and description

Fortress Marienberg, towering over the city on the other side of the Main River, was an episcopal residence until the early 18th century, so it was rebuilt several times over the centuries. The Marienkirche church, numerous fortifications and a system of bastions have been preserved. From the walls of the fortress, from the Marienberg mountain, a beautiful view of the Baroque Old Town of Wurzburg opens.

Now the Franconian Museum has placed its exposition within the walls of the fortress. Here you can see a rich collection of sculptures by Tillmann Riemenschneider, as well as a variety of exhibits that tell about the turbulent history of Wurzburg, its rulers and residents of the city.
