In the 20s of the XIX century, this house belonged to a well-known merchant in Odessa - Charles Sicard. Here was located one of the first hotels in the city - the Hotel du Nord, where, upon arrival in Odessa on July 3, 1823, Pushkin stayed and lived for a month. For thirteen months of Odessa, he created the poem `` Gypsies '', completed the poem `` Bakhchisarai Fountain '', wrote thirty lyric poems and two and a half chapters of the novel `` Eugene Onegin ''. The street where the great poet lived, formerly called Italian, was renamed in 1880 to Pushkinskaya. In Pushkin house (as the Odessa residents - admirers of the poet's talent called) the museum of the great poet has been operating for more than 30 years.
