Photo and description

Mogilev Regional Museum of Local Lore. E.R. Romanova is the oldest museum in Mogilev. It was opened on November 15, 1867 at the initiative of the provincial statistical committee. It was simply called the Mogilev Museum. In 1918 the museum merged with the church-archaeological museum.

In 1929 the museum changed its name to the Mogilev State Museum. It has two branches: the Museum of History and Atheism and the Memorial Museum.

By the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the museum has collected a unique collection of rare antiques. In 1929, some old items from the antiquarian fund of the USSR were also transferred to the museum. During the Great Patriotic War, the museum and its branches were burned down so as not to leave them to the invaders, as the museum value could not be removed on time. The collection of the new collection began only after 1949. The museums of Moscow and Leningrad have shared their exhibits with the Mogilev Museum.

The museum is located in the former building of the district court, where he moved in 1961. Now the museum has more than 300 thousand exhibits, divided into four sections: "The nature of the region", "Archeology and ancient history", "History of the pre-Soviet time", "Soviet period". In 2005, the museum was named after the organizer of the first church-archaeological museum of Mogilev E.R. Romanov.

In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum hosts interesting exhibitions of archaeological collections from different countries, weapons, armor, military uniforms, rare ancient books and manuscripts, icons, national applied art.
