Anyone who has visited Gurzuf at least once is familiar with the legend of the Adalars. And this is no coincidence, because these rocks are located in the Gurzuf Bay, at a distance of only two hundred and fifty meters from the coast. Among the locals, these rocks are called "twins". The word "Adalary" is Turkish in origin and is translated into Russian as "islands". In ancient times, the rocks were a part of the sea coast, but later the isthmus sank into the water, and they were separated from the coast.

Crimea guidebooks and geography textbooks describe the rocks as follows: these white rocks are two identical islands, they reach about thirty meters in diameter, and the distance between the rocks is about forty meters. But this description is dry, short and uninteresting. Many consider them only rocks which have become a haven for seabirds, or unusual backdrops in photographs of curious tourists. In fact, they are more than just rocks. This is a legend created by nature, and then immortalized by her own history in stone.

Adalars are a dream for all divers. To be honest, researchers of water depths are interested not only and not so much in fish that swim at depths near rocks in huge numbers. The mystery is that the rocks rest on the seabed, and the bottom is just a storehouse of interesting finds. First of all, these are fragments of clay products dating back to the XII-XVI centuries. Once upon a time, ships were anchored at this place, loaded with various goods. Then the rocks were still a coast, and not islands as they are now. Some divers are lucky, and today they find here the most interesting evidence of the past. There were those among them who raised completely preserved amphorae from the water.

At the beginning of the last century, a project appeared, according to which it was planned to connect the Genevez Caya rock and the twin rocks by a cable car. In the depths of Genevez-Kaya, a special tunnel was cut for this purpose. But the plan did not come true, the cable car remained only a project.

There are different stories and legends associated with these places. The most ancient in origin and unreal in essence tells about Peter and George, twin brothers. The other tells about the Venice restaurant, and this is a more real story. Allegedly, once such a restaurant existed on the rocks, but collapsed after an earthquake. For tourists visiting Gurzuf, these stories are undoubtedly very interesting. After all, any stone, path keeps the most curious secrets of the past.
