Photo and description

The Royal Cornwall Museum is located in Truro, the capital of Cornwall. It is the oldest museum in Cornwall and a leading center for the study of Cornish culture. The museum belongs to the Royal Cornwall Institute, founded in 1818.

The museum exposition consists of several sections. The archaeological section features artifacts from both Cornwall and other countries and regions. The most famous is Arthur's Stone. The stone was discovered in the ruins of Tintagel Castle and dates back to the 6th century. The inscription on the stone mentions "King Artugnu", whom many identify with the legendary King Arthur, although a significant part of archaeologists deny this connection.

The museum also exhibits collections of decorative and applied art, painting, numismatic collections. In the geology section, you can find excellent specimens of the minerals found in Cornwall. The Courtney Library is part of the museum.

The museum also hosts various exhibitions.
