Photo and description

There are five planetariums in India, named after the first Prime Minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru. One of these planetariums is located in the capital of India - Delhi.

It is located on the territory of Tin Murti Bhavan, or as this place is officially called - the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. Previously, this building was the official residence of the politician. The prime minister was fond of astronomy and considered it necessary to awaken in people, especially children, an interest in science, and in astronomy in particular. Therefore, the construction of a planetarium on the territory of his residence has become quite natural. It was inaugurated in 1984 on February 6 by Indira Gandhi.

The biggest attraction of this place is the compartment of the Soyuz T-10 spacecraft, on which the first Indian cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma went into space. His spacesuit and logbook are also kept there.

The performances held at the Starry Sky Theater have also become very popular among visitors. They attract about 200 thousand tourists annually. You can also see various photos, videos, drawings and even cartoons on space themes.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium in Delhi did not work for some time, as there were repair and restoration work. It reopened its doors to visitors in September 2010. Now I am listening to everyone who wants to present an optical star projector "Megastar", which can show about 2 million stars. Besides, the planetarium has several old telescopes, projectors and solar filters in all rooms with which you can observe solar eclipses.
