Dnepropetrovsk Academic Theater of Russian Drama named after M. Gorky is one of the oldest theaters in Ukraine, which is located in the city of Dnepropetrovsk on Karl Marx Avenue. The theater building was built in 1847 by the merchant Girsh Lutsky, and the theater itself was founded in 1927 by the decision of the council of the executive committee of the city of Dnepropetrovsk on the basis of the troupe of the Moscow Maly Theater. The first to head the new theater was the director and actor Vladimir Ermolov-Borozdin. Today the theater is one of the architectural monuments of national importance.

At the very beginning of the 30s, almost all the plays of the playwright Maxim Gorky were presented on the stage of the theater, and already in 1934 the theater bore his name - the Dnepropetrovsk Academic Theater of Russian Drama named after M. Gorky.

The years of the Great Patriotic War were a tragic event for the theater. At first, he was evacuated to Barnaul for three years, and during the retreat of Hitler's troops from the city, the building was mined and blown up. In the middle of 1944, the Dnepropetrovsk Academic Theater of Russian Drama named after M. Gorky nevertheless returned to his native Dnepropetrovsk and immediately began intensive creative work, after which more and more new performances began to appear regularly.

The Dnepropetrovsk Russian Drama Theater, thanks to its performances, concert programs, as well as charitable activities, has replenished the treasury of Ukrainian theatrical art, and has also attracted the love and recognition of all of Ukraine.
