The Opera and Ballet Theater is the main attraction, as well as one of the architectural monuments of the city of Dnepropetrovsk. The opera house was founded in 1931. During the Great Patriotic War (in 1941) the opera house was evacuated to the city of Krasnoyarsk. In the course of these events, the Dnepropetrovsk Opera House merged with the Odessa troupe, and after the end of the war it officially ceased its activity.

The end of 1974, namely December 28 of this year, became a new era for the revival of the theater. This date can be called the new birthday of the great Dnepropetrovsk ballet. In honor of such a grandiose event, the young team of the theater demonstrated their version of the famous work of the composer P.I. Tchaikovsky " Swan Lake ". Thanks to the founders of the theater (Mark Litvinenko, Anatoly Arefiev, Petr Varivoda, Vasily Kiose, Lyudmila Voskresenskaya), a unique troupe with a wealth of experience in creative possibilities was assembled. distribution of the music of Soviet composers, as well as staging the best example of classical heritage.
