Photo and descriptionThe National Military Club of Romania is located on the site of the Sarindar Monastery, one of the remarkable buildings of the past, destroyed by earthquakes in the 14th century. The ruins of the monastery were demolished in 1893, and now they are wearing a fountain opposite the Museum. In 1911, under the leadership of the famous Romanian architect Dmitry Maimarolu, the construction of a military club began - in a representative neoclassical style. In 1972, the National Military Museum was opened in the club building - a collection of exhibits reflecting the history of the battles for the independence of the Romanian state. The collection for the Museum has been collected since 1923 on the initiative of King Ferdinand. The territory of the Museum occupies an entire block. The history of the Romanian wars, from the brave Dacians and Count Dracula to the present day, represented by a huge number of exhibits. Most of the area is given over to an artillery park - cannons, howitzers, mortars and anti-aircraft guns of various eras. The impressive collection of tanks consists mainly of foreign combat vehicles. Among them - the French Renault FT-17, one of the first tanks in the world during the First World War, the trendsetter of the subsequent tank building. The pride of the collection is a unique tank, the only surviving specimen is a self-propelled gun of the Romanian production Tacam R-2. There is a well-chosen collection of aircraft in the open air on the territory of the Museum. Nearby, in a hangar dedicated to aviation, the entire history of world aircraft construction is displayed. In addition to equipment, collections of eastern and western weapons, military medals and awards, military uniforms, ammunition, and trophies are on display. A large number of mannequins depict battle scenes from different eras. The library of historical military documents is openly available. The Museum has a section dedicated to the first and only cosmonaut Dumitru Prunariu, who flew together with Soviet cosmonauts in 1981 on the Soyuz-40 space complex.
