Photo and description

St. Elizabeth's convent in Minsk is a fine example of modern church architecture. The monastery was founded in the late 1990s.

The history of the only functioning nunnery in the capital of Belarus began with the creation of a sisterhood that was engaged in merciful assistance to patients of the Republican Psychiatric Hospital in Novinki and residents of two neuropsychiatric boarding schools for adults and children. The first two girls, who were tonsured as nuns, saw a miraculous sign in the sky that blessed them to create a monastery.

It is no coincidence that the monastery is named after the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova, canonized after her death. It was she who was distinguished by the most kindly sympathetic heart and more than other members of the Romanov family was engaged in charity work.

The monastery was built in the pseudo-Russian style. In total on the territory of the monastery were built: the Elizabethan church, the temple in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Reigning", the bell tower of the Elizabethan church, a sister building, as well as many workshops in which people guarded by sisters work, a refectory, a church shop, a pharmacy.

The sisters with love and care have decorated the territory of the monastery with a beautiful garden. Flowers bloom here from snow to snow, and evergreen shrubs adorn the monastery in winter. Paths lead through an alley of young trees, benches invite you to rest and reflection, a small fountain-trickle rustles soothingly on an alpine hill built of stones.

Despite its youth, the monastery has already become famous for its holiness. Pilgrims from all over the world flocked here. Probably, our descendants will be proud of this magnificent temple, which will take its rightful place in the history of modern architecture and the Orthodox Church.
