Photo and description

The Caves of St. Beat are located a few kilometers from the city of Interlaken. They can be reached by car or by regular bus. The ascent to the caves starts from the car parking. The road to them winds through a picturesque forest, passes by beautiful waterfalls fed by springs from caves. Wooden bridges are thrown over the waterfalls, which allows you to admire the stormy cascades up close and take spectacular photos. There is a playground in front of the entrance to the caves, and a restaurant serving local cuisine is nearby. However, it is not at all interesting for the skill of the chef, but for the unique views that open from its windows. Lovers of geology can visit the nearby Cave Museum, which has an excellent collection of minerals.

The caves are named after the hermit saint Beatus, who lived here for some time. During a tour of the caves, they even show his cell. Before his arrival in these places, a dragon lived in the caves formed many centuries ago in Mount Niederhorn. It was Saint Beat who expelled the monster, and, according to another version, made friends with him. The image of a dragon is replicated everywhere here: they ride a boat made in the shape of a dragon along the underground river in the caves, before entering the caves, guests are greeted by its image, and plush dragons are sold in the souvenir shop.

The length of the Beatus caves is great. At the moment, more than 14 km of underground tunnels have been explored, but a kilometer-long section is open for visiting. All unique stalactites and stalagmites are well lit. Under the spotlights that give a lot of light
