Photo and description

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Yekaterinburg was built in one of the most picturesque places in the city - on Uktus. Today it is a functioning Orthodox church.

The church was built during 1808-1821. on the site of the wooden St. Nicholas Church of the Uktussky Metallurgical Plant. The church consists of the temple itself, a refectory and a bell tower. In January 1809, the altar of the southern side-altar was consecrated in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The central Transfiguration altar was completed and consecrated in 1821. During all this time, the cemetery grew on the mountain around the church. In 1830, the construction of the northern side-chapel, consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas.

By the 1860s. the right and left side-altars of the church could no longer accommodate all the parishioners, therefore it was decided to rebuild the church. In May 1863, the construction of new side-chapels began on both sides of the building. The Kazan altar was re-consecrated in September 1864, and the Nikolsky altar - in April 1867

The hard years of repression, closure and destruction of churches, starting from 1917, did not bypass the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. In 1937, the temple was closed, the top of the dome and the bell tower were destroyed. In 1942, the building housed the workshop of the plant No. 145 evacuated from the city of Moscow, which produced porous rubber for the needs of the front. After that, the Sverdlovsk factory of hard rubber products was located here.

The first service in a church building not yet transferred to the diocese was held only in 1995 on Easter. After the end of the Easter festivities, the restoration and restoration of the temple began. The entire church was handed over to believers in the same year for the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Daily services in the church began in 1996

Restoration work without the involvement of architects and restorers changed the historical appearance of the temple. In general, the appearance of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is a dying baroque style. In October 2010, after the reconstruction of the church, a side-altar in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated.
