Photo and descriptionIn the center of Dushanbe, there is the National Museum of Tajikistan, opened in March 1934, formerly named after the master of miniature K. Bekhzad. The first reorganization and expansion of the institution took place in the late 50s, in November 1999 the institution was given the status of a national one. A small old building could not accommodate the replenished collections, and in the spring of 2013 in Dushanbe a building was solemnly opened, where the treasures of the National Museum were transferred. Today it includes twenty-two exhibition halls. Thematic sections that are open to visitors include galleries of antiquities, the Middle Ages, nature and modern history, and different types of art. In addition, a research group operates at the National Museum, as well as divisions, studying and systematizing archaeological finds, coins and banknotes and written documents. There are also foundations and restoration workshops. The total number of exhibits presented in the showrooms and storerooms of the National Museum of Tajikistan today exceeds 50 thousand. The most impressive exhibit is the 13-meter reclining Buddha - this is the original, transported from Ajina Teppa in 1966, divided into 92 parts. The date of creation of the largest statue of Buddha in Central Asia is considered to be 500 AD. Other interesting items are beads, sculptures, fragments of a 5th century BC throne, and beautiful ivory carved scissors, bronze figurines.
