Khosta yew-boxwood grove description and photos - Russia - South: Khosta. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionKhosta yew-boxwood grove is a unique monument of ancient nature. It is located on the southeastern slope of Mount Bolshoi Akhun, 2 km from the center of the village of Khosty. This is a kind of museum, a repository of the most valuable relics - representatives of vegetation that has been preserved here almost unchanged since the pre-glacial period. But from it we are separated by almost 30 million years. And here is the last islet of rare endemic habitats - nowhere in the world, except for local places, not found plants. In addition to yew and boxwood, more than 70 species of tree and shrub species, various lianas grow in the grove. Among them are century-old beeches, hornbeams, cherry laurels. But the main value is represented by yew and boxwood. The sun's rays hardly penetrate through the green roof of the centuries-old gigantic trees, and therefore the air in the grove is cool and humid, it is always twilight. The grove amazes visitors with its wild beauty and mystery. And there are many amazing natural monuments here. This is a picturesque canyon of the Khosta River and White Rocks, a labyrinth and two thousand-year-old yew, evergreen boxwood and vines up to forty meters high, a five-hundred-year-old Caucasian linden. This ancient forest today gives people clean, fragrant air filled with phytoncides, stores healing mineral and drinking water.
