Photo and description

The ice pavilion - one of the original attractions of the Saas Fee resort - is located in a deep cave, the entrance to which is at an altitude of 3456 m.To get to it, you need to use the services offered funicular called Metro Alpen. It takes tourists to the alpine summit of the Mittelallein. At the end station of the funicular and the high-altitude panoramic restaurant that revolves on its axis, you can find a shop selling sports equipment. Guests of the resort enter the Ice Grotto straight from the store. An underground 70-meter corridor has been cut to it. The pavilion itself is a 5000 square meter cave, formed in the Mittellein glacier at a depth of 40 meters, so its visitors have the opportunity to see a slice of the glacier, which is quite interesting.

The huge ice cave is divided into sections. Children will love the exhibition of ice sculptures, which are also illuminated by bright multi-colored lamps. Adults can wander through the ice labyrinth, and then visit the chapel, set up right under the ground. Sometimes solemn services are held there. Some romantic couples even order their wedding here. There is also an observation deck in the Ice Pavilion.

Right at the entrance to the pavilion there is a photo booth, with the help of which each visitor can capture himself against the backdrop of millennial ice walls.

Visit to the Ice Pavilion, which was completely renovated in spring 2016, not included in the price of the ski pass. Tickets to this grotto must be purchased separately.
