The Museum of History and Local Lore in the city of Yeysk is located on Sverdlova Street, on the third floor of a building built in 1913. In a small room of the museum, under glass shelves, the whole history of the North-Eastern Azov region is kept, recreated bit by bit.

The museum was founded in 1920 on the basis of the collections of the museum of visual teaching aids, which existed in the city since March 1910. By 1941, the Museum of History and Local Lore stored and exhibited more than 5 thousand objects of material and spiritual culture. During the Great Patriotic War, the museum could not survive the occupation of the city and was almost completely destroyed, and all collections were lost. Under the rubble, only seven museum exhibits were found, which were accepted by the future director of the museum V.V. Samsonov. Thanks to his efforts and the enthusiasm of the workers, the museum began to gradually recover, and already in September 1945 it reopened its doors to visitors. Famous Yeisk local historian V.V. Samsonov headed the museum from 1929 to 1962. In 2000, the local history museum was officially named after V.V. Samsonov.

To date, the Museum of History and Local Lore contains over 55 thousand items. The most valuable and most interesting exhibits are presented to the visitors of the museum. It contains materials from ethnographic and archaeological expeditions, important documents, old and exclusive photographs, numismatics, and a collection of weapons. In the halls of the museum, you can learn more about the history, nature, culture, economy of the city of Yeisk and the region, from ancient times to the present. The exposition presents unique artifacts: stone arrowheads, Nogai jugs, a flintlock pistol of the 18th century, a Tula samovar, authentic posters of the Civil War, medieval chain mail, the uniform of the Hero of the Soviet Union, pilot and colonel general - I. Khizhnyak.
